How can video recording benefit a Church?
Submitted by Rev. Lionel Gruver - ctemple.net
The question was posed, "How can video recording benefit a worship service?" At a recent seminar the answers came up in this particular order.
1. We live in a visual society.
A. High School and College graduates today have had PowerPoint in every class they took.
B. Look how many televisions households have, some even in the bathroom. I-Phones and MP3 players are common place anymore.
2. Video recording will expand the scope of your ministry to outside the four walls of your church. If we stay in those four walls are we nothing more than a 'country club?'
3. Video can be used to support volunteer work in the church.
A. Say women are cooking in the kitchen could have a television in the kitchen showing the service when they can't be in service.
B. Children Church workers and nursery workers could have a complimentary copy of the sermon each week so they wouldn't feel like they missed out.
4. Video recording will allow the church to reach those who might feel uncomfortable in church. It becomes a stepping-stone for many before they begin attending services.
A. Some people will be happy to watch and listen to a message who otherwise wouldn't have come to church to hear it. Maybe their weight or disfigurement makes them self-conscious and uneasy in crowds.
B. Of course the 'shut-ins' will be blessed by the recordings. Take a portable video player out and watch the service with your designated grandparents who are now in the nursing home. (Visitation Ministry)
5. Security and Archiving
A. If someone claims that there was something said that was offensive or improper all someone has to do is look up when the offense supposedly took place and instantly be able to clear the air with proof.
B. Try to imagine how the archives will become valuable when time passes and the church can look back and see how they have grown and remembering messages that touched hearts and led people to salvations.
6. Weddings & Events such as baptisms, baby dedications, in-house productions.
One church said they were going to be able to pay for their camera system just by the proceeds from weddings and making DVD's available to all family members who had someone acting in the church plays.
7. Webcasting that reach out to people all across the nation for many different reasons, that just want and need to hear words of encouragement when they can't be back home.
